2011: Year of Emerging Opportunity

Comments (5)

Since 2010 didn't produce an exuberant recovery, many are already pinning high hopes that the economy and job market will strengthen in 2011, and while it's still early, there are positive signals. Executive recruiters are at their highest registered confidence level since the second quarter of 2008 and fewer companies are expected to eliminate jobs, which bodes well for at least the first half of this year.

On ExecuNet TV, ExecuNet President and Chief Economist Mark Anderson revealed the story behind the stats, where to find opportunities, and how to maximize success in this new business climate. Find out what he says are the things you can do right now to start your career off right in the new year.

Stacy, that's an excellent question and I can briefly give you two examples.

The public job boards are great sources of info to learn about hiring trends, industry growth, company expansion, etc. You'd have to watch them over time and see if any themes emerge: has company X started hiring a lot of sales people? That might mean they have a new product to release, etc.

The other place for this knowledge is through your own connections. The people you know may not have the exact info about a company but they could refer you to someone else who does.

I hope this information is helpful and any of us at ExecuNet are available to share more.

How best does one gain market knowledge and/ or insider insight? Read the Wall Street Journal perhaps, but what are the most effective and efficient resources for this goal?
Thanks,
Stacy

You're welcome, Randi. Sometimes the good news gets lost among the proliferation of all the not-so-good stuff.

Robyn:
Thank you for this interview and for sharing Mark's confidence on the uptake in recruiter confidence and in companies planning to hire in the first six months.
