It was a commonly held belief that unemployed job seekers had a tougher time getting attention from executive recruiters, but that's not necessarily true anymore, says ExecuNet Executive Director Lauryn Franzoni. "Recruiters are having — in their own way — as tough a time in this marketplace as out-of-work candidates are," she says.

In this short video, Franzoni suggests some powerful tips for how executives — in any career stage — can leverage their marketplace knowledge in building relationships with search firm recruiters.

As the President of SecurityRecruiter.com, an executive retained search firm highly specialized in Information Security / Cyber Security and high-level Corporate Security recruiting, I found the comments made in this video to be on target.

Executive recruiters can be career builders for corporate executives if you as a corporate executive have invested the proper time and attention to building relationships with recruiters when your ship is not sinking.

Even in a slow job market, executive recruiters do invest time to build proactive relationships with executives who skills match their area of specialization. The time to build a relationship with a highly specialized recruiter is when you don't personally need them.

Later on, your phone might ring at a time that is right but also at a time when you weren't expecting a call to discuss a career building professional move.
